I was blessed to have a few days of relaxing and rest amongst the beautiful surroundings of the South Bank of the Humber.
It wasn’t long before cabin fever crept in - time to get out the van, put on my trusty boots and stretch my legs for a couple of hours on one of the local trails. It was a good day for a walk. Underfoot was soft, the breeze was gentle, the sky was clear blue with the odd cloud drifting merrily by and the sun shone brightly. It felt more like late September that January.
Sometimes I find it hard to switch off, thinking through different scenarios to problem solve issues related to work or vanlife. So it felt good to be out, to feel alive and enjoy the walk.
I can see pylons in the distance and I’m now thinking about power. How to gather enough through solar to keep the van lights on tonight which has been an ongoing saga. To distract me from that, I start to think how reliant we all are on power, like the pylons feeding the steelworks then making their way east across farmland to keep the lights on elsewhere. Or the power we use to go from A to B, even if it’s for the morning paper and a pint of milk. Even in nature there is power, in so many forms, that if I think about for too long, it starts to blow my mind.
Here I am, at a bench with an inscription, looking at someone else’s favourite beauty spot. It’s time to sit down and just enjoy.
Having these few days has made me realise the Power of rest!
