Last week we house and cat sat for our friends in Hessle, whose garden we lived down in our beloved caravan, Lucille, for the first few years of married life. It got me reminiscing anyway and remembering that mostly idyllic time. Tucked away in our little corner of paradise, making a home and living fairly simply.
We found her on Gumtree for £250. And towed her from a storage place near Cottingham to the ten-foot at the back of the garden on a winter's Sunday morning. "Most of what we're doing is legal," said Gav as he was driving. The tyres just about roadworthy and the number plate still belonging to the previous owner.
It took a lot of faff and ingenuity to get her in the garden and a lot of work to get her liveable-in (pretty much all down to Gav). But come the March, she was ready. And we spent the next two and a half years happily habitating within and around her.
Since embarking on vanlife, Lucille has been residing at a caravan storage place near Cottingham. Near to the one where we first towed her away. We still visit from time to time, bringing gifts for her to store and taking some away when needed. How long she'll be with us still, we know not. But it's been good to look back and remember.....
