Recently my eldest reached the age of twenty-one, and it doesn’t seem that long ago since I cut the cord and watched her being awash with light and take her first breath in this ever-changing world we somehow manage to find our place in.

I see so many good, wholesome qualities in her that I can’t accept responsibility for. She has so many good people in her life. One of whom is her younger sister. So it was a special time for us to be with them both to help celebrate the milestone of being 21. With a metal detector! On a beach with big waves crashing in very chilly temperatures that had me returning to the car after 15 minutes and Fiona 5 minutes later.

With the heater on full blast, we sat there waiting for both daughters to return, reminiscing about being young and not feeling the cold. And then, there they were. And I felt the reassuring comfort of seeing them return with talk of their treasure.

Whilst we packed up and got ready for the drive back to Hull, it struck me that my treasure is having these three fantastic women in my life. I’m a lucky man. 🕊❤️
